A voice for the persecuted

The Society for Threatened Peoples is an independent international human rights organisation. We encourage ethnic, linguistic and cultural diversity and are an independent voice for minorities and indigenous peoples worldwide. Our most important activities involve the protection of minorities and threatened peoples, the promotion of human rights and the fight against human rights violations.

We inform
Through publicity and campaigns we inform the public about the situation of threatened peoples, especially taking up issues which hardly appear in the daily press or on the political agenda. With these activities we aim to create an awareness of our concerns and efforts in our community. Furthermore we promote contact between members of threatened peoples and minorities in various countries with people from our country. We provide an extensive documentation on various issues for any people interested in our work and human rights in general.

We politicise
By the means of democratic instruments and with our profound relationships with politicians and authorities we help to ensure that Switzerland shares its responsibility for the protection of minorities and human rights. The consultative status of our organisation within the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations and the European Council enables us to represent our concerns not only on a national but also on an international level.

We co-operate
Our commitment for the rights of minorities and human rights is only possible with the large support of the civil society. We work together with various organisations and people working on human rights issues in Switzerland as well as abroad. Of particular importance is our co-operation with the Society for Threatened Peoples International and its sections in several European countries.

We need your support
Effective work for protection of minorities and threatened peoples and the promotion of human rights are only possible with a large amount of supporting people. The Society for Threatened Peoples is dependent on its members and supporters not only on a financial basis but also for their human resources.

With your membership or a donation you contribute to our work for a future in which all ethnic groups on this earth can live together in peace. Help us create a world of cultural diversity.

Together with your support we can make oppressed voices heard of and lend a helping hand to those most in need. Help us in bringing information from crisis areas to the public that otherwise fall into oblivion. Support our efforts to create an international network for minorities and human rights. Every commitment counts, yours too!

Diversity means richness
The ethnic, cultural and linguistic diversity in our world is one of our most precious heritages. Diversity means richness and includes confrontation as well as learning from each other. The world lives on its diversity.

This historically developed diversity is threatened by various global changes in the recent past. In many countries minorities are discriminated and persecuted and ancient cultures are being destroyed.

The Society for Threatened Peoples interferes where minorities are oppressed and human rights violated. Independent from any political or religious community we account for the rights of threatened peoples and minorities in their survival and cultural existence and fight against human rights violations.
